Dear Friends…

This is a hard one to write…

As most of you know already, Sandy had her two month MRI last week and we got the results on Friday — the MRI showed a new tumor has appeared in her brain. It is about an inch away from the area where she had the surgery in October. Fortunately, because she has been getting MRI’s every two months, this new tumor is still relatively small - 1.6cm - so the doctors believe it can be treated. One of the treament options may be cyberknife, a pinpoint form of radiation that does not require any conventional surgery. We will find out more when we get to Stanford Medical Center and meet with the team of doctors. We leave tomorrow (Tuesday) morning for the two-day drive to Palo Alto (we don’t like to fly, so a spring road trip it is). The past two or three days has been an intense whirlwind flood of adrenaline and emotions…. from scared tears to laughter and love, usually all at the same time….

Yesterday we had an open house garden party that we had planned about 3 weeks ago. When we realized that the date we had picked was right after her scheduled MRI, Sandy asked me “What if it’s a bad MRI?”  And I said “First of all, it’s not going to be a bad MRI, and if it is, all the more reason to party.”  Well, I got the last part right anyway. It was an amazing, powerful, beautiful day of connecting with friends, most of whom did not know about Sandy’s MRI results until they got to the party. I can’t even begin to describe what a  great experience it was for us and everyone there. It turned into an unplanned but very fitting send-off for us. We are so blessed to be surrounded and uplifted by so many friends in this wonderful community. But unfortunately we have to leave them, and our home, for another trip to Stanford. But we are confident in the journey and know the place and the doctors well. And that gives us hope. And we know that our garden of friends and family will be with us in spirit… and will be here upon our return.

I’ll keep this blog updated as best I can on our trip. Please say an extra prayer for Sandy.

Good night,
Dan

Hi there - we just read this note today and are so sorry to hear the news. However, you did say road trip heh? Well, how about on your way back you stay with us in Portland? Just give us a ring at home or on our cell and we can make arrangements. You need to rest and be safe driving right? And, its about 1/2 way or so (well close enough) between Leavenworth and Palo Alto. And, it will be a good primer so you can get used to our house in prep for your arrival in July for the Lance Ride. So let’s do it. Call as soon as you can to give us a heads up on when you might be heading back. Home: 503 274-9950 Cell: 503 970-7681 Take care - you are in our thoughts and prayers daily. Love, D2

Sandy, While my kids were out to recess I decided to check in on you. I lit a candle for you at church on Sunday. Although I didn’t know the results of your MRI yet, your angels must have nudged me with “A little Help here”. Stay strong. We hate that you have to go through this. Our love and prayers always. Susie

Sandy, I got back to school yesterday after that extended “vacation”. It was a triple bummer to find out you weren’t there, we hadn’t heard about your party and you’re going back to Stanford. You’re as tough as Lance, so you can do this!!! I’ll look forward to seeing you again soon. Dan–Chris and I will do some spring training for you and Sandy. Thanks for mentioning our ride on the blog. I’ve got to get to work raising the big bucks!

Hey you two, it was so nice to see you last Saturday. Thanks for the hospitality and the wine:) As always Sandy, your light inspired me and filled me with awe. I hope you know what an inspiration you are to me, and how much I value our friendship. Connor told me to tell you guys that he’d do anything for you….wow, this from a 16-year-old. You are STRONG girl!! Keep the faith. Our hearts are with you, love Kellee
