A Thousand Miles…

And we have arrived in Palo Alto…

After leaving Ashland, we had another perfect weather day of driving, thank goodness. Only 400 miles today, but it took almost all day to get here, with construction and traffic. We went past beautiful snow-covered Mt. Shasta, glistening in the sun…

And toward the end of the day, we drove over the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco. The oak-covered hills all along the way are glowing with bright green grass. The beauty everywhere has been comforting. And though it is somewhat surreal to be here again just six months
later, we are so relieved to be here. The familiarity of the town and
the hotel with its beautiful, peaceful grounds is also a comfort after a
long, sometimes tearful trip. Tomorrow, a day of rest and maybe walking around the Stanford campus. Friday the appointments with doctors. And Saturday we have plans…

We called Sandy’s “Brain Tumor Buddy” tonight (she’s the woman who had brain surgery by the same doctor on the same day as Sandy, and shared her hospital room back in October — she lives here in the bay area). In yet another bit of incredible timing and meant-to-be-here now, she told us that she is participating in a fund-raising walk on Saturday at Golden Gate Park… for, you might have guessed it, the National Brain Tumor Foundation. So Sandy and I are going to join her for this big event. They get about 1,000 participants, and it sounds like a very inspiring convergence of camaraderie. It’s called “Angel Adventure.”  We are really looking forward to it, something very powerful and positive. So I better sign off now and get some rest…

Good night,
Dan

Hello again! I posted a note on yesterday’s message (about the package I shipped down there), but just read this and WOW! All these wonderful moments/memories that happened on your last trip are starting all over again, and you barely just got there!! You two are truly blessed! Love, your sis. P.S. I’ll be walking in the OSU Pet Day fund-raising walk on Saturday, so I’ll be thinking about you two!!

Sandy and Dan, when I read your words, which so capture your journey, I find myself struggling to find words to express the thoughts and feelings your sharing evokes. I cry tears of such deep love for the two of you. You guys are LOVE! You are LIFE! Your are just so ALIVE! Your collective spirits find a will and a way to find something to celebrate, something to rejoice in, no matter what is thrown at you. This truly amazes me and its so incredibly beautiful to witness. You are both teachers extraordinaire. I thank you for the gift of your friendship and your love that you have always extended not only to myself and my special love, but to both our families as well. Your capacity to live and love is awesome. Please know that there are so many of us holding you close in our hearts and souls and sending you such love and thoughts and prayers for strength, healing, and a swift and safe journey home. I know how much you needed to get down to Stanford swiftly and safely, and I’m thankful that your team is ready to get working with you. With prayers for peace, love, and healing … and gratitude for your sharings, patty p.s. I love your travelling gnome;)
