Happy Mother’s Day
Posted by: Dan @ 12:13 pm

From Sandy…
Happy Mother’s Day!
to all the moms out there.
A special thank you to Glenna, Carolyn and Emma.
Being a mother has been the very best thing that has happened in my life. And I am so proud of these three strong women and also my son Cameron for being such a special person.

Stanford Church

Sandy wanted to share two poems…

Illumination
It is better to light candles
than to curse the darkness.
It is better to plant seeds
than to accuse the earth.
The world needs all of our power
and love and energy,
and each of us has something that we can give.
The trick is to find it and use it,
to find it and give it away.
So there will always be more.
We can be lights for each other,
and through each other’s illumination
we will see the way.
Each of us is a seed,
a silent promise,
and it is always spring.
–Merle Shain

Sandy’s Angel

Hope
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I’ve heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.
–Emily Dickinson

Sandy’s surgery is scheduled for tomorrow at around noon. I will call family as soon as she is out of surgery and in the intensive care unit and doing OK. That will probably be late afternoon. I should also be able to update the blog from the hospital later on. Sandy is feeling strong and positive about tomorrow - the waiting has been the hardest thing. We are feeling all your love and energy and prayers coming our way. Thank you all. And one last word for the day…

Love,
Sandy and Dan

Love and Prayers for today. We can’t wait to see your mom and dad at the bay over Memorial weekend and talk about how wonderful everything went for you today. I love your poems. I’m going to print them out and give them to a couple of friends who are also fighting cancer. I also believe! Thank you for your never ending strength. Thank you Dan for yours as well. God and all his angels are with you both and the docters today. Tomorrow as well…. Susie

Yesterday, on a Mother’s Day walk up Brender Canyon to Camas meadow, past the balsamroot, phlox, lupine, and into the anemone, glacier lily forest. Up above, a lone orchid, then another, close by. I suddenly start, expecting to see a gnome; but he was down taking a dip in a Palo Alto pool. He’ll be back. At noon today I will sit in silence on the hill above the house and think of you both. With love, maggie

I love what you are doing Sandy, Dan and Cameron by opening your lives at this time to so many people and being so emotionally honest about what you need and do not need from the people around you who love you so much. It is an education for so many. Love to you all Mary Jo
