Today, May 16, is national LiveStrong Day. Lance Armstrong and advocates from across the country are preparing to descend on our nation’s capital and demand change from our elected officials. They will announce The Cancer Screening, Treatment and Survivorship Act of 2007. It is a bold step toward applying what we already know in order to save hundreds of thousands of lives. Please visit the LiveStrong Day website, and on that page you will see a link to contact your representatives in Washington DC. It takes less than a minute to do.
A year ago on LiveStrong Day Sandy was walking down the halls of Stanford Medical Center, one day after her second brain surgery (see the May 2006 archive link at left). I can still feel her arm in mine as we walked around in our yellow Livestrong shirts, exhausted but happy, knowing she had gotten through the surgery alright. I will think of that day — and feel her strength and determination, always with an amazing sense of humor through it all — and keep going.
Help us with the fight against cancer, and also help those engaged in their own personal battle with the disease, by going to our “LiveStrong Challenge” link at the left — and join our team, or make a donation to one of our team members. Thanks, and…
Live Strong,
Dan
May 20th, 2007 at 8:44 am Our friend,Linda, gave one of Sandy’s cards to a woman recently diagnosed with a Stage 4 glioblastoma. She later told Linda that she had read every word of Sandy’s website and how much it helped her plus answered so many of her questions that the doctors didn’t. Sandy just keeps on giving and giving, doesn’t she?!!!
May 21st, 2007 at 9:57 am Hey Dan - still with you here. We still think of you and sandy everyday but have not been on internet as much. The blog remains inspiring. We are looking at our summer calendar and will soon be announcing a date to hook up at the barn. Stay tuned. Much love D2
June 13th, 2007 at 5:17 am LiveStrong Dan! We’re all well here in Portland. I’m sorry it’s been so long since I’ve sent a note. Now 10-years old and five years after his initial brain-tumor diagnosis (almost three years after his last surgery/radiation), Johan continues to live strong and, with Lars (who will ride for the third time this year), will be riding in his first LiveStrong ride later this summer. Both Lars and Johan remember seeing Sandy, you and your team last year. As we so often do, I know we will all be thinking of you. Love, Nan, Lars, Johan, Finn & Ava
June 13th, 2007 at 7:52 am Brother Dan O, It’s time for you to write again. I love you.
