Five Bucks and a Snickers Bar…

That’s what I handed the homeless guy standing at a stoplight near Olympia on our drive down to Ashland today. It also sounded like a catchy title for this post. OK, I’m tired and delerious from a 10-hour drive, but it’s the best I could come up with.

Sandy and I made it to Ashland tonight around 7pm, beautiful weather all the way so the driving was easy. We’re staying at a wonderful place called the Ashland Springs Hotel - a classic old hotel in downtown Ashland, Oregon (thanks for the tip Heather!)

We strolled around downtown in the warm glow of the setting sun, and found a great mexican restaurant full of bright colors, fun people and delicious food. It fit our tired but lightened mood perfectly. We’re feeling really good about heading toward Stanford, after the stress of leaving home faded. And if it wasn’t for our destination, we could almost feel like we’re on a road trip vacation. We actually started this trip without having any scheduled appointments with her team of doctors at Stanford. But we had faith they would arrange everything. This afternoon we found out that she will meet Friday with a radiation oncologist and the doctor who performed her surgery in October. And she has an appointment with her neuro-oncologist on Monday. So her team is in place. Tomorrow we will get to Palo Alto and settle into the same hotel we stayed at in the fall (thanks to my sister Caryn at AAA!)… and prepare to face what’s next. Sandy is feeling good… and “putting her Lance face on.”

By the way, we have a new traveling companion on this trip. Many of you saw him at the party.
Here he is at the Ashland Springs Hotel…

Stay tuned for his further adventures….[Apologies to the movie Amelie]

Good night,
Dan
